More snow this afternoon into this evening for the Beartooth Foothills and the area surrounding Red Lodge. Another 6 inches of fresh snow could fall by midnight.
Tuesday into Wednesday morning could bring 40 MPH winds and much more snow for the southern mountains of Madison and Gallatin counties. The West Yellowstone area is an area of concern, with the high peaks of that area to get up to a foot of fresh snow.
High Wind Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are covering much of Montana, some lasting well into Saturday. Some higher elevations might get TWO FEET of fresh snow, along with dangerously high winds. Travel is going to be an issue at times.
Until about noon on Wednesday, very gusty winds will affect travel on the I-90 corridor between Livingston and Big Timber. Blowing and drifting snow is expected, and high profile vehicles may get blown around a bit.

Travelers have encountered howling winds and ground blizzard conditions on Thanksgiving while traveling on Montana roads. Southwest Montana highways have been particularly hit by gusty winds consistently over 30 mph. Combined with even small amounts of snow, conditions and visibility has been quite poor.
Central and southwest Montana valleys could be dangerously slick on Thursday morning during commute hours. A perfect storm of temperature and moisture will combine to create freezing rain in several locations.
Tricky driving conditions will continue in Montana through Friday morning with more snow falling along with varying temperatures. The vast amounts of snow that fell this past weekend have already created snow-packed roads and deep ruts.
Travel could be very difficult at times in parts of southwest Montana through Monday morning. Several inches, perhaps up to 6 inches of snow is expected to fall intermittently in this weekend storm.
It's literally the perfect storm for Butte, Bozeman, Billings, Baker, and everywhere in between. Heavy snowfall, dangerous winds, and drastically cold temperatures are expected across most of Montana. Don't be surprised if Emergency Travel Only statements are issued.
Howling winds are going to continue on that notorious stretch of I-90 from Livingston to Columbus, up to 50 MPH at times. With so much fallen snow in the last couple of days, this is a real problem in terms of how much you can see while driving on the highway.
