In addition to announcing a boatload of new LEGO Star Wars products coming to tie into Force Friday II, LEGO finally revealed the rumored revamp of its Ultimate Collector Series Millennium Falcon set. Originally released in 2007, the Millennium Falcon set was one of the most sought-after LEGO vehicles ever sold. In the last 10 years however, it's been impossible to find at a fair price. Now on the verge of the ninth proper Star Wars film release, LEGO is releasing an all-new take on the Falcon that is not only the largest set ever released, it's also frighteningly amazing.

Colin Trevorrow Explains Why He’s Still the Man for the ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Job
I’ve always found the intersection of fan culture and Hollywood to be endlessly fascinating. When Joss Whedon took over the reigns of Marvel’s The Avengers, for example, it kicked off a period where a filmmaker’s talent behind-the-scenes was less important than their reverence for the source material. Whedon once wrote a series of X-Men comic books; Duncan Jones had spent years playing the Warcraft MMORPG; Neill Blomkamp adored the Alien franchise; Rian Johnson was an unparalleled Star Wars nerd. It was no longer enough for a studio to hire a director with vision and talent, you also needed to hire someone who identified - or could as least pass a skill check - with the very audience you were trying to target.

Ron Howard is a very capable director who knows how to position a camera and capture a powerful image. But I also have a sneaking suspicion that maybe Ron Howard isn’t great at social media or taking casual phone pics. He seems like the type of dad who accidentally snaps a selfie when attempting to take a shot of a sunset, or butt-Facetimes his family. Just look at his latest Twitter photo.

If you’ve made use of the internet in the past week, then you may very well be aware of a recent personnel change-up on the set of the gestating Han Solo spinoff film. Original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are out, Ron Howard’s in, but as with most showbiz behind-the-scenes drama, the details have been kept under wraps. That is, until The Hollywood Reporter ran an illuminating new item this morning, getting the dish on what really drove the two filmmakers away from this project. The catch-all code word of “creative differences” does not even come close to doing justice to the antipathy between the Lord-Miller brain trust and Lucasfilm.

When you’re part of a giant franchise, there are going to be toys of you. That’s just how these things tend to work. Star Wars is in a realm all of its own, with toys ranging from giant Star Destroyer LEGO sets to Elan Sleazebaggano action figures, and, naturally, the stars of the franchise have their favorites and least-favorites. Mark Hamill recently shared his opinion on what he thinks is the worst Luke Skywalker toy, and it’s quite a doozy.

Just how far in advance is this overarching Star Wars saga planned out? Episode VIII, The Last Jedi, is on post-production now and headed to theaters this winter. Episode IX is in development, building off the events of that film. So how much of Episode VIII was set in stone, and when, to give Episode IX enough time to be fully developed and fleshed out? And is that movie setting the stage for an Episode X, and so on and so forth? These are the questions a man thinks to himself when he writes on the interwebs all day.
