‘Ghost in the Shell’ Producer Reveals Storyline Details and What’s Adapted From the Anime
Last Thursday night, Paramount gathered press in New York for a special presentation on the studio’s upcoming projects. Nestled between the sizzle reels for Martin Scorsese’s long-awaited Silence and Denzel Washington’s buzzy Fences adaptation was an extended look at their upcoming rework of seminal anime Ghost in the Shell, starring Scarlett Johansson in a range-stretching performance as an Asian robot. (Both Asian cultural watchdog groups and more principled robots have expressed objections to this, but that’s neither here nor there.) Paramount’s stoking the fires of anticipation for their prospective early-spring blockbuster before its March 31 release next year, and a new piece from Collider should only raise the temperature higher.

Scarlett Johansson Says a Solo Black Widow Prequel Movie Is a ‘Possibility’
Scarlett Johansson has played Natasha Romanoff in five Marvel movies, five, and yet she still hasn’t gotten her own Black Widow solo movie. It’s kind of crazy, especially since fans have been clamoring for the female superhero to get her own film for ages – just this summer a new poll found that audiences want a Black Widow movie over any other Avengers character. Kevin Feige recently ignited some hope, saying Marvel is “committed” to giving the superhero her own movie, the Russo brothers called it a “no-brainer,” and Joss Whedon is down to direct. Of the original Avengers cast, only Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow haven’t starred in their own solo movies. While audiences only really warmed up to Hawkeye thanks to his arc in Age of Ultron, fans have been enamored with Black Widow since she made her debut in the otherwise-underwhelming Iron Man 2. There’s been talk off and on over the last few years about a Black Widow solo movie, and just in case the people in suits over at Marvel are wondering: yes, audiences still very much want to see it.

Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello, the boyfriend-girlfriend comedy team known as Paulilu, has been churning out hilarity at factory-levels for the past couple years. In addition to working on the writing staff of Broad City (where Downs also appears as Abbi’s insufferably upbeat boss Trey), they created the Time Traveling Bong miniseries that ran on Comedy Central just last week and have loads of so

Stephen Colbert’s First ‘Late Show’ Almost Never Made it to Air
The reviews for Stephen Colbert’s debut as the new Late Show host were mostly positive. Our own Matt Singer said the show got off to a “solid start” as Colbert took over for David Letterman, but the show almost didn’t get off to a start at all. On his second show, Colbert revealed that because of editing and technical glitches, his first episode almost didn’t make it on air.

Jennifer Lawrence Tops List of Highest-Paid Actresses of 2015, But They Still Make Way Less Than the Men
A couple of weeks ago, Forbes revealed its annual list of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, with Robert Downey Jr. effortlessly landing the top spot. This week, the publication has released the list of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, with Jennifer Lawrence taking the number one spot followed by Scarlett Johansson — hardly surprising, but what makes this list interesting is that many of the women on it earn far less than their male counterparts.
