Winter may have arrived in Westeros, but Game of Thrones is finally melting the ice with a summer premiere. At long last, Season 7 has been confirmed for an official July premiere, as revealed during a special, lengthy ice-breaking live event.

Buried among the avalanche of death and destruction rolling through each Game of Thrones season, we can usually find one or two yearly cameos from famous musicians, athletes, or other such fans of the show. We’ve had one debunked for Season 7, but apparently a notable New York Met found time to enter the World of Westeros, that of pitcher Noah “Thor” Syndergaard.

It’d be difficult to imagine someone beside Jonathan Pryce earning the High Sparrow’s fiery Game of Thrones end, but harder to envision anyone but Anthony Hopkins puppeteering that wild Westworld finale. That said, it seems Mad Men and The Crown alum Jared Harris was at one time up for either part, as revealed in a fascinating new interview.

Game of Thrones isn’t necessarily known for its seasonal cliffhangers (Season 5 was more “did that really happen?” than “what happens next?”), but might the penultimate year leave us on a mammoth twist? That’s the suggestion from series star Maisie Williams, claiming “We’ve come to the climax and it’s rolling down to the end.”

Game of Thrones generally doesn’t hide the fact each season features a celebrity cameo or two, but those expecting to see UFC fighter Conor McGregor putting up his dukes in Westeros are apparently in for a bit of a dodge. McGregor apparently denies taking any role, adding “I’ve never even heard about it!”

HBO has a lot to look forward to in 2017, including the returns of both Game of Thrones and Curb Your Enthusiasm, but if British men shouting is your thing, they’ve got you covered too. Welcome back John Oliver for 2017, as HBO goes all-out with the hits to promote Last Week Tonight Season 4.

Boy, it sure seems like a great deal of the most anticipated TV shows are all making us wait until 2018. Either way, SNL and Trainwreck star Bill Hader is finally headlining his own series on HBO (and a hitman comedy at that), and Barry is suiting up for production this spring. Don’t expect to see it until 2018, though.

The first few trailers for Girls’ sixth and final season have shown off a few notable cameos, but not necessarily any of the ones we’d heard previously. Well, apparently we can throw Rogue One and The Night Of and The OA star Riz Ahmed on that list as well, as revealed in a new photo.

Our days of mourning Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds are far from ended, but the first trailer for their mutual HBO documentary Bright Lights will uplift as much as upend your day. See for yourself, as Fisher looks back on her mother’s storied Hollywood career, as much as her own struggle with depression.

Yesterday saw HBO announcing a tribute to the late Carrie Fisher via encore presentation of her adapted Wishful Drinking, and the network will waste little time paying tribute to her mother Debbie Reynolds as well. The official release of upcoming mother-daughter documentary Bright Lights has now been scheduled for early January as well.

Game of Thrones will return later in the year than we’re used to in 2017, but HBO isn’t about to let you forget about the series after six years. Before December finally brings the winter of 2017 upon us, HBO will marathon all six seasons of Game of Thrones in one dragon-sized catchup.

HBO’s The Jinx enraptured viewers not just by the brutal nature and winding mystery of its central crimes, but also the sinister mannerisms of its prime suspect, Robert Durst. The real estate heir famously even implicated himself in the final episode, though Durst now claims he was using meth “the whole time.”
