The announcement of Disney’s inevitable streaming service raised a number of questions on the TV side, including whether Marvel series would follow their movie counterparts in leaving Netflix. The six Defenders series now seem likely to remain in their original home, however, according to comments from Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.
The Defenders will bring us the spectacle of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist united, so it came as little surprise Jon Bernthal’s Punisher would stick to his spinoff for now. Marvel isn’t certain how, or when a second Defenders season might take place, but The Punisher may not become a team player then, either.
Stan Lee may not make physical cameos in Marvel’s Netflix Defenders series, but his influence is felt all the same. See the man himself narrate a new teaser for the big team-up, in the process revealing our first look at The Punisher.
We’ve known as far back as Marvel’s Netflix Daredevil that one Hand-y threat would connect us to Iron Fist and everything in between, but has someone been pulling The Defenders’ strings all along? Marvel’s Netflix Defenders debuted its official August premiere with curiously little fanfare, but as with the team-up miniseries itself, the real story lies beneath the surface. A new viral tie-in website touches on several ongoing Daredevil mysteries, also updating us on Luke Cage and more.
Even as Marvel’s Iron Fist finally completed the sequence of Netflix heroes that will bring us The Defenders team-up, certain fans will never give up hope that the four could join the larger collective of cinematic Avengers. Sadly, The Falcon is none-too-keen on such a crossover, as Anthony Mackie dismisses Marvel’s TV heroes as “different universes, different worlds.”
Despite all we know of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and their respective casts, The Defenders has kept deadly silent on Sigourney Weaver’s mysterious villain. No longer, as new photos reveal not only said villain’s nom de guerre, but also some Luke Cage crossover, and more.
The already-streaming Marvel Netflix series have given us a taste of the four major superheroes paired up, but we’re nearing time for The Defenders to bring it all home. So it is, that Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist are all standing tall in a costume-happy first photo!
