It seems that Channing Tatum’s long-developing — and frequently delayed — Gambit movie is finally back in business. After losing two directors and his leading lady, Tatum took the X-Men spinoff back to the drawing board to re-develop the screenplay. With Fox’s X-Men universe quickly expanding following the success of Deadpool, it looks like the studio is ready to give Gambit the green light, and they’re eyeing Lizzy Caplan to join Tatum.

Channing Tatum and longtime collaborator and producing partner Reid Carolin were set to make their co-directorial debut with an adaptation of Matthew Quick’s YA novel Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock. The film was set up with The Weinstein Co., but in an official statement released today, Tatum and Carolin revealed that they are no longer developing the project at the studio in the wake of extensive sexual assault and harassment allegations against former studio head Harvey Weinstein.

Channing Tatum’s a delight — fleet-footed dancer, lovably lunkheaded actor, and crooner of the occasional showtune, he’s got more of a claim to the title of America’s sweetheart than just about anybody. But while I may love Channing Tatum, and you may love Channing Tatum, he’s got one critic he just can’t seem to win over: his four-year-old daughter Everly.

It’s too early to be entirely certain, but judging by this clip, Daniel Craig might be the most wonderful part of Logan Lucky. The 007 star drops the posh accent and suave sophistication to play a bleach-blonde countrified convict in Steven Soderbergh’s latest film, which centers on a pair of brothers (Channing Tatum and Adam Driver) plotting to pull off a heist during a big racing event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. That’s where Craig comes in.

Much like the Coen Brothers, Steven Soderbergh has two distinct sides. There’s the ‘serious artist’ side, the one responsible for movies Contagion, Solaris, and Traffic, and the side that makes delightfully light-hearted genre movies. As much as I may enjoy Serious Soderbergh, I always have the most fun with the Soderbergh who made Ocean’s 11 and Out of Sight. And thankfully for those of us tired of grimdark summer blockbusters, that’s the Soderbergh on full display in the first trailer for Logan Lucky.
