The N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton retained its No. 1 position at the box office for the second consecutive weekend. The F. Gary Gray-directed movie pulled in an estimated $26.8 million over the three-day period.

Last week, the film grabbed a record-breaking $60 million take and after two weeks in the theaters, Compton has grossed $111.5 million so far, according to the Associated Press.

At this point, the movie could possibly hit the $200 million threshold and it looks like there’s no competing film that could stop it from achieving that goal.

It appears the controversy hanging over the film of producers covering up Dr. Dre’s past domestic abuse against women hasn’t deterred moviegoers from seeing Compton, which chronicles the rise of the ‘90s rap icons who became known as the World’s Most Dangerous Group.”

For his part, Dre did issued a statement on Friday (Aug. 21), apologizing to the women he has hurt in the past.

“Twenty-five years ago I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life. However, none of this is an excuse for what I did," he wrote. "I’ve been married for 19 years and every day I’m working to be a better man for my family, seeking guidance along the way. I apologize to the women I’ve hurt. I deeply regret what I did and know that it has forever impacted all of our lives.”

Meanwhile, Ice Cube has already proclaimed Straight Outta Compton as the "Best Movie of the Year."
