Starting Tuesday November 25th, 2013, salvage permits for road-killed deer, antelope, elk, and moose will be available online. Just in time for Thanksgiving!

It has been legal to salvage road-killed animals in Montana for over a month, and currently law enforcement will fill out permits on-site. But beginning November 25, 2013, the process will be possible online at fwp.mt.gov.

In order to salvage an animal that was killed by a vehicle you must complete a free salvage permit within 24 hours of salvaging the animal. You do not have to be the person that struck the animal, but I'm guessing the person who hit the animal has first claim.

While we are now able to salvage roadkill in our state and it is even more convenient with the online permit, we hope that everyone has safe travels this holiday season and enjoys their Thanksgiving feast.
