Always leave your camp cleaner than you found it.

Whether you're in the backcountry on a hike, or at a vehicle accessible campground, you're most likely to see trash left behind by someone else. One of the first things I do when I get to a campsite is walk around with a trash bag and clean up the area. It doesn't take much effort and it keeps the place nice for future visitors.

With the warmer weather we've been having, I've been trying to be more active and go hiking. It's pretty sad when you're 3 or 4 miles up a trail and you see a plastic bag full of dog poop. I'm all for cleaning up after animals, and I always do it myself, but seriously!? Pack that crap out with you.

A few days ago, the Friends of Hylalite Facebook page posted this picture showing trash left behind at the day use pavilion at Hyalite.

This Memorial Day weekend, let's respect our public lands and keep them clean. There's no excuse not to.
