Early Reviews Call ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ an Epic Conclusion to a Great Trilogy

Hot take: The Planet of the Apes has always been one of the very best franchises ever. Even back in the ’70s, even when some of the ape masks looked a little hokey, the Apes series consistently delivered some of the most thoughtful, prescient, spooky, and unrelentingly bleak sci-fi films Hollywood has ever produced. Nearly every single one ends on a mega-bummer; beloved characters dying, entire races getting wiped out, or, in one awesomely disturbing example, the entire freaking planet getting blown to smithereens.

Boy Rescued on Gallatin River, Father Hospitalized

A boy was rescued and his father is in the hospital after a rafting incident on the Gallatin River on Sunday.

At around 6 p.m. Sunday, Gallatin County Search and Rescue was dispatched to an area of the Gallatin River between Gateway and Axtel Bridge Fishing Access Site after a man called to report that he saw a boy, around five years old, floating by himself down the river, wearing "red floaties" and screaming...

Jared Leto Teases His Possible Involvement in ‘Gotham City Sirens’

The spotlight in the DC Extended Universe is squarely on women right now. Wonder Woman is still tying moviegoers in knots; just one more good weekend will make it the second biggest DCEU movie in the U.S., and it could pass Batman v Superman for the top spot not long after. Princess Diana will get back in the spotlight in Justice League this fall, and last summer was all about Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn stealing scenes from Will Smith and the rest of the Suicide Squad. Basically DC sisters are doing it for themselves.

Producers Clarify Where ‘Venom’ Exists in the MCU and Sony Spider-Verse

For the past week, fans have been doing their best lawyer impressions and trying to figure out how movies like Venom and Spider-Man: Homecoming will connect in the broader Marvel universe. It wasn’t that long ago that Sony producer Amy Pascal hinted that Venom would be somewhat connected to the Spider-Man of the MCU, which confused the heck out of all of us and started the rumor mill working overtime on how Sony and Marvel’s properties might work together. Of course, as is always the case with the particularly juicy rumors, there was always the chance that someone misspoke.

Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Skyscraper’ Gets a New Costar and Synopsis

Does anyone else think that Dwayne Johnson’s blockbuster movies are starting to blur together a little bit? Given that Johnson tends to play variations of the same character  —  the tough-as-nails and compassionate ex-military whatever  —  while things blow up around him, what matters most is the type of thing that’s blowing up. Sometimes they’re cars (The Fate of the Furious), sometimes parts of California (San Andreas), and sometimes monsters (Rampage). Don’t worry, though, because Johnson will really show off his range with his next film: this time, it’s a building that blows up. Oscar, please!

The Bellas Get One Last Gig in the ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Trailer

Look, I’m no stranger to college acapella groups. When I was an undergraduate, a ragtag group of choir kids — myself most definitely included  —  organized the first men’s acapella group in the modern history of the university, and a quick Google search shows that the group is still alive and well to this day (no, I won’t tell you the name of the university or the name of the ensemble, so don’t bother asking). So am I pretty much as cool and influential as the Bellas in the Pitch Perfect movie series? Why, yes. I’d like to think so, yes.
