Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin may not agree with every change the HBO adaptation makes, but that wouldn’t push him so far as too root for an Outlander Emmy over his own series, would it? The author claims “Outlander was robbed” at this week’s Emmy nominations, even if certain Game of Thrones stars finally got their due.

Per Vulture, Martin’s ever- bountiful LiveJournal saw the Song of Ice and Fire author responding to few of Thursday’s Emmy announcements, which themselves saw 23 total nominations for the series, the highest of any. Martin of course beamed at the variety of recognition for cast and creatives, but responded to another comment with some of his own gripes:

OUTLANDER was robbed. All three leads were amazing… especially Tobias Menzies in his double role as Frank and Black Jack.

Of course, Martin himself has a personal friendship with Outlander author Diana Gabaldon, while Menzies also previously starred on Game of Thrones (briefly returning this season). Martin also made note that Eva Green’s Penny Dreadful work went unrecognized, but foremost offered his congratulations to the HBO stars:

I am thrilled and happy for all our nominees, of course… but it made me especially happy to see Kit and Maisie get some love from the Academy at last. About damn time, I say. They are several years overdue. (And I would have loved to see Sophie Turner on that list as well. I know, I know, I’m greedy).

Turner would have been quite a sight, to make two-thirds of supporting actresses in a drama Game of Thrones stars, atop Lena Headey, Maisie Williams and Emilia Clarke, but does Martin at least have a point about Outlander getting shut out?

What other series were snubbed in favor of Game of Thrones?
