You'd think that the date that Montana officially became a part of the union would call for celebration, but for some reason, it's not. In case you didn't know, Montana was the 41st state to be admitted into the Union on November 8, 1889. Many of the more significant events in the state's history actually happen before Montana gained statehood. Lewis & Clark traveled through Montana in the early 1800s, and the Battle of the Little Bighorn took place in 1876.
