‘Spartacus’ guarantees its audience gore, sex and shirtless men, but those last two are the main reasons so many of us choose to watch. Liam McIntyre is the latest shirtless man to star as the show’s primary character, but does he match up to the previous leading men?

We certainly think so. Just like Dustin Clare and Andy Whitfield who starred before him, McIntyre has the ab action and rugged, barbarian-like manliness needed to fulfill the role.

McIntyre came to us from Australia after Whitfield, who played the original Spartacus in the series, suffered from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and then passed away from the condition in September. “Every actor dreams of getting a big break, a big opportunity,” McIntyre told The New York Times. “Andy’s such a wonderful actor. I don’t want to follow that guy, and everybody hurts that he’s had to give up the role, myself included.”

What do you think? Does McIntyre have the acting skills — and more importantly, the hotness — to take over as the lead actor in the series? Or, do the previous stars surpass his studliness? Vote below, and be sure to check out the new season of ‘Spartacus’ in 2012.
