Justin Bieber is the latest in a long line of celebs and stars to etch his virtual John Hancock on an online petition that hopes to have the rating for ‘Bully’ lowered from an ‘R’ so more people across a larger age group can see the film. A-listers are signing the petition in hopes of enacting change.

MPAA censors branded the film with the ‘R’ rating, which means that children under 18 cannot view the film unless accompanied by an adult. However, the film’s backers are fighting that rating, since the movie is designed to help and inspire kids who are dealing with bullying. It’s crucial that the rating being lowered as it would open up the potential and increase the impact for this incredibly important film that takes a hard look at a topical issue in our society.

According to WENN, Michigan high schooler and former bullying victim Katy Butler launched the petition on

She said, “I can’t believe the MPAA is blocking American teenagers from seeing a movie that could literally save thousands of lives. The MPAA needs to give ‘Bully’ a PG-13 so the students being bullied and bullies themselves can see this film and schools can show it as well.”

She continued, “It’s awful. Everyone either gets bullied or is a bully. We need to change this, and showing this film is one way of doing that.”

Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga are also supporting the crusade to lower the rating. Each pop diva has already done plenty of work to combat the bullying epidemic and this is another avenue for them to use their star power for good.
