How I Met Your Mother fans likely still have trouble washing off the stink of that final season, let alone series finale. Jason Segel might be up for another roll in the mud however, teasing that he’d participate in a possible reunion series.

Take this with a grain of salt for the moment, as even CBS cut the cord on returning to the How I Met Your Mother universe too quickly, but Segel offered some surprising thoughts to The Hollywood Reporter from the Austin Film Festival. No official reunions have yet been proposed (the series only ended in 2014 anyway), but consider Marshall down regardless:

I’d be around for whatever those guys wanted to do. It changed my life … I would leave [the story] to the writers. One of the great things about my relationship to that show is I never got involved in the writing, I just tried to execute what these brilliant writers did, so I would leave that to them, as usual.

In any case, creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas were last given a pilot production commitment to a new comedy series about merging a young couple’s families, as part of an overall deal with Sony TV. The pair previously attempted to keep How I Met Your Mother going with How I Met Your Dad, only for CBS to pass on the series.

Certainly most would agree that any HIMYM return needs a great deal more time and specificity (the series mapped out each character’s entire lives anyway), but what should we hope for from any possible reunion, beyond Jason Segel?
