Hugh Jackman Recalls the Time He Peed Himself Onstage on ‘Rachael Ray’
Hugh Jackman is riding high these days, with his robot boxing film ‘Real Steel’ hitting number one at the box office. But the 42-year-old Aussie decided to take himself down a notch during a interview with Rachael Ray that will air Friday, rehashing an old story about a very embarrassing accident at his first-ever live show.
Back in 1996, Jackman was playing Gaston in the staged musical of ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ and to prepare for the physically demanding role, he drank four liters of water before the show. Unfortunately, the massive amount of fluid did more than just prevent dehydration:
“I go down to the stage, getting ready for my first number… and I’m like I really need to go again. [The routine is] the most cardiovascular song I’ve ever done: literally I’m picking up Belle and as I pick her up, I stopped singing and right in that moment I realized the muscles you need to release in order to sing are the ones you do not want to release if you need to go.”
And went he did. Obviously, Jackman didn’t let this wet experience deter him from doing more musicals — he’ll be starring in the live action film adaptation of ‘Les Miserables,’ slated for a December 2012 release.
