An 18 year-old hiker was severely injured on Tuesday afternoon while hiking Ross Peak north of Bozeman. Gallatin County Search and Rescue and a Heli Team were dispatched to the scene after being alerted that a hiker had taken a fall while climbing.

The young hiker injured his head and was unconscious for a time but had come to by the time Search and Rescue arrived to help him.  He was flown to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital where he is being treated for severe head trauma.

According to the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, the man stated that he was hiking up the trail toward Ross Peak. He and his brother then scrambled over rock in hopes of reaching the summit. The male stated that a hand hold broke and he went tumbling downhill.
