The Montana Repertory Theatre’s national tour of the 2005 Tony winner for Best Play, Doubt: A Parable, comes to The Ellen for one night only on Thursday, February 9th. Written by Academy Award winning author John Patrick Shanley, Doubt also captured the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was a critical and box office success on Broadway, running for 525 performances. The 2008 screen version starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, was nominated for five Academy Awards.
Author John Patrick Shanley sets Doubt in the fictional St. Nicholas Church School in the Bronx during the fall of 1964. What follows is a twisting and turning plot of faith, trust, human insight and a test of friendship that is emotionally captivating and theatre at its best. The riveting and psychological battle between a priest and a nun brings audiences to the edge of their seats and introduces topics that will be discussed long after the final curtain.
Montana Repertory Theatre specializes in the great stories of our world. The Ellen Theatre is proud to host this acclaimed group as they present a new American play that will endure, sure to become a classic in its own right. Doubt is an extraordinary theatrical sleight of hand and Shanley leaves audiences no simple answers, no pat solutions, and no easy outs. Quite simply, this is playwriting on the highest level.
Tickets for Doubt are $23.00 and $16.00, depending on seat location, and may be purchased online at www.theellentheatre.com. Beer and wine will be served in the lobby starting at 6:30 PM and the play begins at 7:30 PM.
