Boy, that Edward Norton sure likes playing priests. From playing a minister in 2000′s ‘Keeping the Faith’ to one of his more famous roles as an altar boy in ‘Primal Fear,’ the ‘Avengers‘ dropout and ‘Bourne Legacy‘ star will once again be taking holy orders, portraying a priest for ‘The Simpsons” upcoming 24th season. But when Edward Norton hits the scene, what will become of Reverend Lovejoy?

According to Entertainment Weekly, actor Edward Norton will once again saddle up to the microphone to record a role for ‘The Simpsons,’ having previously guested in season 12 as a con artist. This time around, Norton will portray “the most loveable minister in the world,” which you can bet is going to cause some friction with Springfield’s resident holy man Reverend Lovejoy!

Says ‘The Simpsons’ executive producer Al Jean of the rivalry, “He is much more popular than Reverend Lovejoy, if you can believe it, and Lovejoy is really upset and becomes a hot tub salesman. It comes down to a battle between the two of them… and there’s a surprise at the end.” The episode “Pulpit Friction” will likely air in the spring of 2013.

Norton isn’t the only big name to come out of ‘The Simpsons’ season 24, however, as we recently learned that ‘New Girl‘ star Zooey Deschanel would reprise her role as Bart’s love interest Mary Spuckler not once but twice, joining other such guests as Anne Hathaway, Sarah Silverman, Natalie Portman, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Steve Carrell, Patton Oswalt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Max Weinberg and Robert A. Caro.

What say you? Do you think Norton’s priest and Reverend Lovejoy will be able to resolve their differences? Who would you like to see lend their voice to ‘The Simpsons’ season 24? Give us your picks in the comments below!
