The unsung heroes of the action movies that fuel the film industry are the stuntmen and stuntwomen who put their lives on the line for our entertainment, often with little to no credit. When they do their jobs right, they are invisible, making the name stars appear to be the fearless cool badasses these stunt people are in real life. And even though more and more stunts and effects are done with computers and green screens, this is still perhaps the most dangerous line of work in the entertainment industry.

Case in point: TMZ delivers the sad news that a stuntperson on the set of the hugely anticipated Deadpool 2 has died after “a motorcycle stunt went terribly wrong.”

The rider went airborne in Vancouver Monday morning during filming for the movie. Her bike crashed through the glass of a ground-floor studio inside Shaw Tower near Jack Poole Plaza. Witnesses say she never applied the brakes.

This incident comes days after Tom Cruise was injured performing a stunt on the set of Mission: Impossible 6. Even with the best people in the world, even with every precaution taken, things can still go wrong. Accidents happen. And when they happen in the world of stunts, there can be tragic consequences.

Our condolences go out to the unnamed stuntperson and her family (TMZ says her identity is being withheld for now.) And our continued thanks to every stuntperson, who works so hard for our entertainment. We do not take you for granted.
