Given the Chinese population’s well-documented love of Apple products — and the Chinese government’s well-documented disregard for copyright laws — it should come as no surprise that there are many counterfeit iPads floating around the land of a billion plus.

But an entire fake Apple store, selling entirely fake Apple products, is still pretty stunning. And that’s what the blogger BirdAbroad found in the Chinese city of Kunming.

“They looked like Apple products,” BirdAbroad writes. “It looked like an Apple store. It had the classic Apple store winding staircase and weird upstairs sitting area. The employees were even wearing those blue t-shirts with the chunky Apple name tags around their necks.”

However, upon further investigation, BirdAbroad noticed a few little differences: the sign in front bore the words “Apple Store,” instead of just the apple symbol that adorns entrances to the company’s official brick and mortar stores, and the employee’s name tags, which had no names — just a designation that they were “staff.”

A check of Apple’s website confirmed that no Apple Store exists in Kunming.

According to BirdAbroad, the fake Apple store’s employees seemed unaware that they were working at a completely counterfeit business. Check out more photos of the elaborate fraud below.
