Guys, you’re never going to believe what just happened. One of the actors in an upcoming Hollywood blockbuster just predicted that his new movie will be full of incredible special effects and awesome set pieces! This changes everything we thought we knew about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And here I thought the sequel was going to be a hard-hitting expose on Peter Quill’s abandonment issues with his father, the giant face planet played by Kurt Russell. You know, real somber stuff.

In all seriousness, though, Chris Pratt recently spoke with the Toronto Star (via Entertainment Weekly) about the finished production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and his confidence that the new movie would manage to surpass the original in every possible manner.

It’s finished and it’s going to be terrific. … I think it’s going to be — I’m not using hyperbole, here — I think it’s going to be the biggest spectacle movie of all time. … It’s exceptional.

While most Marvel movies benefit from having their characters’ feet firmly on the ground  —  the upcoming Infinity War movie aside, the films have succeeded by keeping characters like Iron Man and Captain America grounded in contemporary political concerns  —  the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is setting itself up as the exception that proves the rule. The first movie was a blast of bright colors and fresh character design; its success has surely emboldened James Gunn to push the film into even more creative and weirder territory. It’s hard to lower the stakes when you’ve added a giant face planet to your cast, you know?

As Pratt notes in the interview, we’re still on pace to see the first trailer sometime before Christmas, so it may be a while before we can begin to judge Pratt’s claims for ourselves. Once that first trailer drops, though, we’ll kick off months of new footage and teases, so get excited to be even more excited for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 right on through to its May 5, 2017 release date.
