In the days following the release of IT, several fans (ourselves included) began speculating about who might play the adult versions of the Losers Club in the sequel. One of the most popular choices for the role of grown-up Beverly Marsh, played in the first film by the scene-stealing Sophia Lillis, was Jessica Chastain — a sensible pick, considering that Chastain previously starred in director Andres Muschietti’s feature debut, Mama. As for Chastain herself, she’s totally down to take on that evil clown.

Speaking with ScreenRant to promote another upcoming directorial debut — Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game — Chastain spoke highly of Muschietti and his sister and producing partner, Barbara. The actress also expressed an interest in playing the adult version of Beverly Marsh in the IT sequel:

Well, I love Andy and Barbara. I worked with them on Andy’s directorial debut, you know, his film, Mama. His first film. And you know, Barbara is one of my best friends so… We’ll see… Listen, of course, I want to work… they’re my friends. They’re like my family. Anything that they’re doing I want to be a part of, so I hope we can make it happen.

Chastain is certainly no stranger to the horror genre (in addition to Mama, she starred in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak), and she’s quite fond of strong female roles (see…just about everything she’s done). It’s not exactly surprising that Chastain would be interested in joining IT: Chapter Two, which sees the group of outcast friends return to their hometown as adults to battle the evil, titular entity once more.

The acclaimed young cast has already been confirmed to reprise their roles — via flashback — in the sequel, but no other casting has been announced just yet. Andy Muschietti and screenwriter Gary Dauberman are also returning for IT: Chapter Two, which is scheduled to hit theaters on September 6, 2019.
