‘Power Rangers’ International Trailer Has Teens, Angst, and One Mean Rita Repulsa

In case you forgot that the Power Rangers movie is happening, Warner Bros. has rolled out an international trailer to drum up interest here and overseas. There’s a good chance this movie will be way bigger on the other side of the Pacific than here — after all, the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers TV show came from Japan. This is the first big blockbuster live-action movie adaptation of the characters, so it makes sense that it’ll trace back to the original TV show’s roots a little, but not without some changes. The new trailer features angsty teens, mysterious alien rocks, and symbolic hair-cutting.

John Williams, Yes, That John Williams, Has Never Watched a Single ‘Star Wars’ Movie

John Williams, probably the most recognizable name of modern Hollywood film scores, has given us the iconic soundtracks to little indie pictures such as Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Indiana Jones, E.T., and, of course, Star Wars. The music is at once timeless and nostalgic, allowing us all to sink cozily back into the days when Amblin ruled our childhoods as we listen through each score over and over. All of us, that is, except John Williams.

Ladies, Gentlemen, and Friends: I Give You Chewbacca Singing ‘Silent Night’

It’s the Friday before Christmas. Those of us who aren’t currently concealing the fact that we’ve slumped over at our desks in a eggnog-hangover-induced nap have glued our eyes to the clock, counting down the minutes to a leisurely holiday break. Everyone just wants to get home, gather with family or other loved ones around a crackling fire, put on the musical stylings of Burl Ives or Bing Crosby, and have a nice mug of hot cocoa. Time slows to a crawl on the Friday before a long weekend, and we both know you’re not getting any work done today, so why not kick back with the soothing sounds of Chewbacca moaning out a classic Christmas standard?

‘Rogue One’ Had a Ton of Voice Acting Cameos, Including a Bunch from ‘Clone Wars’ and ‘Star Wars Rebels’

The fun thing about a sci-fi franchise as big as Star Wars is how everyone wants to be in it. There are a ton of “secret” cameos in the two newest films — the most high profile of which, so far, is Daniel Craig as that Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens — but Rogue One also got its share. There are a ton of voice cameos in the movie, most of which are from members of the filmmaking crew and voice actors who usually lend their talents to the Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels animated series.

Michael Fassbender Almost Had a Role in ‘The Force Awakens,’ Probably Not Rey

Star Wars is a coveted dream franchise for many actors, and with so much material out there it’s almost a surprise we haven’t had all of our favorite stars popping up at least once in each movie. Even back in the ’70s a ton of actors were considered for Han, Luke, and Leia before George Lucas settled on his two leads. Forty years later, nothing has changed, and there’s a slew of actors who were so close to getting a part in the new trilogy before scheduling conflicts got in the way. As it turns out, we can now add Michael Fassbender to that list.

‘Suicide Squad,’ ‘Deadpool,’ ‘Hail, Caesar!’ Included in Oscar Makeup Finalists

One of the more niche Oscar categories is Best Makeup and Hairstyling, which is one of those that gets awarded early on in the ceremony before any of the really big ones like Best Actress or Best Picture are announced at the very end. But sometimes it’s the technical categories that are the really interesting ones, and this year in particular saw a few very creative makeup design moves, especially when it came to superhero movies.

Denis Villeneuve in Talks to Direct ‘Dune’ Because Dreams Really Do Come True

If you’re a fan of Denis Villeneuve (raises hand) or just excited for Blade Runner 2049 (raises other hand — wait, how am I still typing), then you might recall a particularly interesting interview from September. In that interview, the director of Arrival revealed that it’s been a “longstanding dream” of his to direct a new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune — a pipe dream, really, since acquiring the rights presented a significant challenge. As it turns out, Villeneuve is living proof that impossible dreams can come true (with the right ideas and the right amount of cash).

Michael Peña and Alexander Skarsgard Declare ‘War on Everyone’ In Raucous New Trailer

A bruise-black crime comedy about a pair of tough-guy partners working in a dark-grey moral area to unravel a larger crime syndicate, executed with a '70s flair. It sure looks like 2017 will find its The Nice Guys in John Michael McDonagh's upcoming feature War on Everyone, the trailer for which debuted today in advance of its February 3 debut. The new Gosling/Crowe power couple is none other than Michael Peña (poised to rebound from the career cyanide of Collateral Beauty) and Alexander Skarsgård (also in need of a rebound, from this summer's dud Tarzan), as a pair of police officers who make typical cop-on-the-edge types look like they're not even on the edge, like they're a safe distance from the cliff.

Dick Van Dyke to Revive Magnificently Bad Cockney Accent in ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel

Dick Van Dyke remains a beloved and esteemed entertainer at age 91, fondly remembered for his charismatic performances as a hapless songwriter in Bye Bye Birdie and a sooty-faced chimneysweep in Disney’s 1964 musical Mary Poppins. What he’s remembered decidedly less fondly for is the other role he played in the period-piece musical, elderly bank chairman Mr. Dawes, Senior. Clad in old-age makeup and credited as “Nackvid Keyd” (an anagram of Dick Van Dyke), the notorious D.V.D. busted out a frightfully bad Cockney accent in his scenes as the tight-fisted money man. Widely mocked at the time and voted the second-worst accent ever in a poll from Empire, it was not the high point of Van Dyke’s impressive career.

‘Rock Dog’ Trailer: A Character In This Movie Is Named Fleetwood Yak

If you heard the title Rock Dog and made the reasonable assumption that the film is about a dog who rocks, then well done, you’ve cinched your saddle up on the basic premise of Lionsgate’s upcoming animated feature. Bodi (voiced by Luke Wilson) is a dog, who dreams of one day rocking. But this dog cannot rock — not yet, anyway. For the dog to attain his dreams of rock stardom, he’ll need the help of feline record producer Angus Scattergood (voiced by Eddie Izzard), a cartoon kitty version of Ralph Fiennes in A Bigger Splash. But the new trailer released today seems to indicate that rock is well within this dog’s abilities, and that after undergoing a substantial personal transformation, he will take up his rightful mantle as the one true rock dog. Rock Dog.
