The Bozeman Police Department is urging citizens be extra vigilant to ensure your car doors are locked at night. They also advise parking your vehicle in a well lit area if possible.

They posted this yesterday on their Facebook page:

**UPDATED ALERT**
CRIME ALERT - THEFTS FROM VEHICLES
Alert: Bozeman has seen an increase of thefts from both locked and unlocked vehicles.

Prevention: Please be extra vigilant to ensure your vehicles are locked and parked in a well-lit area if possible. Do not store Firearms or any other valuables in your vehicle. It is also a good idea to document any firearms and valuables you own by writing down their seral numbers and photographing the item(s).

If you must store items in your car, be sure they are completely out of view of passerby’s. Again, lock your doors and keep valuables out of sight.

Report: Please report any suspicious circumstances you see in your neighborhood to the Bozeman Police Department at (406) 582-2000 or use the "Contact Us" link at www.BozemanPolice.com.

If you see an active display of suspicious circumstances in-progress, please call 9-1-1 immediately.

It's a pretty sad day when you have to lock your doors in Bozeman. With the population growing at the rate that it is, I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing reports like this more frequently.
