The college football season is officially over, but it's never too early to predict and look at next season.

Bobcat fans in Montana and beyond were somewhat disappointed with the 2023 season. The team went 8-4 with tough losses to Idaho, the Montana Grizzlies, FCS National Champions South Dakota State, and the heartbreaking loss to North Dakota State at Bobcat Stadium in the FCS Playoffs.

Fans had high hopes the Bobcats would have won the Big Sky Conference and a deep playoff run in 2023, but it wasn't in the cards for us.

After the season ended, several players announced they planned to transfer to larger schools to get more recognition to play in the NFL. Prominent players on the offense and defense have departed and graduated, but does that mean bad news for the upcoming season? Not particularly.

The football season won't start for another seven and a half months, but why don't we look at the 2024 schedule and see how the Bobcats will fare?

  • August 24th vs. New Mexico: The Bobcats will be traveling for the first game of the 2024 season. New Mexico is an FBS-level team in the Mountain West conference. The Bobcats will have an uphill battle against New Mexico.
  • August 31st vs. Utah Tech: The Bobcats will head to Utah Tech for a rematch after Montana State blew them out at the Gold Rush Game 63-20. Utah Tech will want revenge, but the Bobcats should win this game.
  • September 7th vs. Maine: The first home game of the season will be against the Maine Black Bears. This will be the Bobcat's yearly Gold Rush game. The Bobcats should win this game.
  • September 14th vs. Stephen F. Austin: Another home game for the Bobcats, Montana State should win this game.
  • September 28th vs. Idaho State: The Bobcats will kick off the Big Sky Conference slate against the Bengals in Pocatello. We expect Bobcat fans to travel the short distance to this away game.
  • October 5th vs. Northern Colorado: Bobcats are back home against the Golden Bears. The Bobcats should be in good shape and win this game easily.
  • October 12th vs. Idaho: The Vandals head to Bozeman for a revenge game for the Bobcats. The Bobcats had a heartbreaking loss to them in 2023, and Idaho lost quite a bit of their team to the transfer portal. Montana State needs to win this game.
  • October 19th vs. Portland State: Another away game for the Bobcats, and it is a toss-up. The Bobcats have always had a tough time against the Vikings, and this game could be trouble.
  • November 2nd vs. Eastern Washington: The Bobcats will head to the red turf in Cheney, Washington, on a tough away game. The Bobcats have had trouble winning at Eastern Washington in years past.
  • November 9th vs. Sacramento State: This home game will be a revenge game for Sacramento State. It will be another massive test for the Bobcats and how they will fare for the rest of the season.
  • November 16th vs. UC Davis: UC Davis was a team robbed of a spot in the 2023 FCS Playoffs and will be looking to make a statement in 2024. This away game could be a problem for the Bobcats.
  • November 23rd vs Montana: The final home game will be the Brawl of the Wild against the Montana Grizzlies. The Bobcats need to win this game after what happened in 2023.

The Bobcat's season has the potential of them finishing with ten wins, but it all depends on if the players can step up and replace those who have left.
