Early Reviews Call ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ an Epic Conclusion to a Great Trilogy

Hot take: The Planet of the Apes has always been one of the very best franchises ever. Even back in the ’70s, even when some of the ape masks looked a little hokey, the Apes series consistently delivered some of the most thoughtful, prescient, spooky, and unrelentingly bleak sci-fi films Hollywood has ever produced. Nearly every single one ends on a mega-bummer; beloved characters dying, entire races getting wiped out, or, in one awesomely disturbing example, the entire freaking planet getting blown to smithereens.

Jared Leto Teases His Possible Involvement in ‘Gotham City Sirens’

The spotlight in the DC Extended Universe is squarely on women right now. Wonder Woman is still tying moviegoers in knots; just one more good weekend will make it the second biggest DCEU movie in the U.S., and it could pass Batman v Superman for the top spot not long after. Princess Diana will get back in the spotlight in Justice League this fall, and last summer was all about Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn stealing scenes from Will Smith and the rest of the Suicide Squad. Basically DC sisters are doing it for themselves.

DeMario Jackson Won’t Return for the Rest of ‘Bachelor in Paradise’

Here’s the latest semi-daily update on the ongoing situation over at Bachelor in Paradise. The show is coming back to the airwaves this summer, after the conclusion of the investigation into the allegations of misconduct on set. Deadline reports you might get fewer episodes than you were supposed to; probably two fewer installments that the original season order, due to the reduced shooting schedule and the delays in production. The “leaner” show almost certainly will not hit its original premiere date, August 8. But, Deadline says, it will address the controversy that temporarily shut the show down. How could it not?

Get Ready Pitches, Here Comes the ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Poster

Pitch Perfect has become of the unlikeliest (and therefore more welcome) Hollywood franchises in recent years. The series combines the college hijinks of something like Animal House with the competition of an underdog sports movie like The Bad News Bears, and throws in just a dash of Christopher Guest comedy. The first movie was a particular delight, and while the second film didn’t quite recapture the magic, I’m hoping the third film, Pitch Perfect 3, will wrap up the series with style.

Did the New ‘Transformers’ Kill Shia LaBeouf’s Character Off-Screen?

The new Transformers movie is all about buried secrets. Texan Bostonian inventor bro Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and brainy Oxford professor Vivian Frumplebumple (okay I admit it: I didn’t catch her last name so I made that up) discover a world they never knew: The hidden history of Transformers on Earth. It turns out the Transformers have played a role in every armed conflict throughout time. The Transformers helped King Arthur, and they threw an assist to the Allies during World War II. There’s more to meets the eye in those history books, doncha know.

Carnage Will Be the Villain of Tom Hardy’s ‘Venom’

In the middle of their profile of Sony, Marvel, and their unique arrangement sharing the character of Spider-Man in both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, The Hollywood Reporter dropped a fairly major detail about the upcoming Venom film that Sony is developing alongside their Spidey franchise: Carnage will appear as a villain in the film.

‘Dunkirk’ Will Be Christopher Nolan’s Shortest Film in Almost 20 Years

Christopher Nolan is one of the few directors in Hollywood who gets to make original epic movies. He served with great distinction in the Batman franchise and now he basically writes his own ticket. Audiences love his sprawling sci-fi films like Inception and Interstellar; their bigness is part of the reason audiences love them. Very few directors get to paint on that large of a canvas.

Warners Finds No Misconduct on Set of ‘Bachelor in Paradise,’ Show Will Resume Production

This is big: TMZ reports that Warner Bros. has concluded its investigation into the allegations of “misconduct” on the set of Bachelor in Paradise earlier this month. Shooting was suspended after a producer supposedly refused to show to work and then “went on to sue” the production. Rumors suggested that an altercation between contestants Demario Jackson and Corrine Olympios may have gone too far, with Olympios possibly too intoxicated to consent to sexual activity with Jackson. “I am a victim,” Olympios later said in a statement.

Colin Trevorrow Asked ‘The Last Jedi’ Crew to Shoot Something For ‘Episode IX’

Just how far in advance is this overarching Star Wars saga planned out? Episode VIII, The Last Jedi, is on post-production now and headed to theaters this winter. Episode IX is in development, building off the events of that film. So how much of Episode VIII was set in stone, and when, to give Episode IX enough time to be fully developed and fleshed out? And is that movie setting the stage for an Episode X, and so on and so forth? These are the questions a man thinks to himself when he writes on the interwebs all day.
