This Hilarious ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Line Was Written by a Make-a-Wish Kid
Looking at Facebook or Twitter or even casting so much as a brief glance at news headlines has become a daily source of despair. So if you’ve done any of those things today (and you totally have), you’re probably in the market for something a little more warm and fuzzy. Enter Chris Hemsworth with a heart-melting revelation about one of the funniest lines in the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok.
‘IT’ Filmmakers Considered Casting Tilda Swinton as Pennywise
From an androgynous angel hellbent on revenge to the self-loathing mother of a sociopath, a despicable dictator, the CEO of a pharmachemical corporation and pretty much everything in between — there’s almost literally nothing that Tilda Swinton cannot do. So when the filmmakers behind IT revealed that they gave serious thought to casting one of the most chameleonic and creatively-minded actors of our time in the role of a sinister supernatural clown, it wasn’t exactly surprising.
‘Wonder Woman’ Gearing Up for Serious Oscar Campaign
It takes a lot for Academy voters to recognize or even acknowledge a superhero film, but perhaps the highest-grossing film ever directed by a woman could do the trick. With a worldwide box office gross of $781 million (to date) and a 92 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Wonder Woman is a certified hit. Critics and audiences alike have fallen head over heels for Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s solo superhero film, but can Warner Bros. get Oscar voters to do the same?
‘IT’ Trailer: And You Thought Clowns Were Scary Before
You know what they say: Everything is better with friends. That includes fighting an evil demonic clown who lives in town sewer system and has an affinity for Victorian era garb. Wardrobe preference notwithstanding, Pennywise is still pretty darn terrifying, especially if you’re already scared of clowns — in which case, you might want to avoid the new trailer for IT.
Nicholas Hoult in Talks to Play ‘Lord of the Rings’ Author in ‘Tolkien’ Biopic
Nicholas Hoult might be adding another iconic author to his filmography. The star of the upcoming J.D. Salinger biopic Rebel in the Rye is reportedly the frontrunner for the title role in Tolkien, which will explore the life of the man whose beloved novels introduced readers all over the world to Gandalf, Hobbits and Gollum — and inspired countless works of fantasy fiction for decades to come.
‘The Emoji Movie’ Parodied ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and Twitter Was Not Having It
An animated film featuring anthropomorphic emojis like Poop and High Five is probably not the best, um, vessel for a parody of a dystopian series in which fertile women are forced to procreate with wealthy men. But that’s exactly what happened late yesterday afternoon, when the marketing for The Emoji Movie took a decidedly dark and exceedingly ill-advised turn. In a tweet that has since been deleted, the film’s official account shared a promotional photo parodying The Handmaid’s Tale, Hulu’s acclaimed series adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s classic novel. Unsurprisingly (and delightfully), the public response was swift and savage.
Those ‘Justice League’ Reshoots Are Reportedly Very Extensive and Super Expensive
Rumors began circulating earlier this year about “extensive” reshoots on Justice League, which are now being overseen by Joss Whedon following Zack Snyder’s recent exit. Although reshoots are fairly typical and often factored into the post-production schedule, particularly on big budget blockbusters such as this, the film’s cast downplayed the matter at Comic-Con over the weekend. But a new report doubles down on earlier rumors and reveals just how complicated things have become for Justice League in the final stretch.
Ben Affleck Might Not Be in ‘The Batman,’ Reportedly Exiting the DCEU Very Soon
It looks like Ben Affleck’s Bat-days may be numbered — and more than you might think. Not only is the actor unlikely to appear in The Batman, but a new report reveals that he’s on the verge of exiting the DCEU entirely. The news comes as not much of a shock following Affleck’s departure from the helm of the upcoming solo movie, for which he was replaced by War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves.
‘It’ Reveals a Threatening New Poster for Comic-Con
As a tagline, “You’ll float too” sounds more like a promise than a threat (maybe it’s both?), and the upcoming adaptation of It definitely seems ready and willing to deliver. Even if you haven’t read Stephen King’s classic horror novel and lack the context for that tagline, there’s something undeniably disturbing about it, especially when taken with this new poster created exclusively for Comic-Con 2017.
‘Jigsaw’ Trailer: Live or Die, The Choice Is Yours (Again)
Jigsaw’s back, y’all. It’s been several years (seven, to be exact), but everyone’s favorite death-contraption-loving maniac has returned — well, sort of, anyway. The first trailer for the latest installment in the Saw franchise has arrived, promising to reclaim Halloween with another round of gory puzzles, a host of fresh victims, and plenty of those classic convoluted plot twists. Let the games begin?
‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Adds Walton Goggins to the Cast
Walton Goggins has officially joined the MCU. What a time to be alive. The character actor and star of Vice Principals, The Hateful Eight and the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot has signed on for Ant-Man and the Wasp, the upcoming sequel featuring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as the eponymous superheroes. Goggins is the third recent addition to the cast, joining fellow newcomers Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat) and Hannah John-Kamen (Black Mirror) for Ant-Man’s next big (semi) solo adventure.
New ‘Deadpool 2’ Photo Features Some Hardcore Cuddling Action
Comic-Con is just two days away, and while we don’t know everything we can expect to see in Hall H this year, there are a few films guaranteed to make an appearance — including Deadpool 2. Filming is already underway for the sequel to last year’s foul-mouthed box office hit, and if you’re feeling antsy about Thursday’s 20th Century Fox panel, Ryan Reynolds has offered up a little something to tide you over until then.
