Hard to believe you’ll see anything cuter than this today: watch as an 11-year-old Natalie Portman auditions for the role of Mathilda in Luc Besson’s ‘Leon: The Professional.’
Her line readings are a little clunky and she’s underacting (hey, just being honest!) but at the 40-second mark, Portman flashes that brilliant smile that seems to light up her entire face, and you begin to understand why the camera would continue to love her.
Young Portman would move from ‘The Professional’ to Michael Mann’s ‘Heat.’ She hasn’t looked back since, winning her first Oscar for ‘Black Swan’ in 2010 before taking time off to have a baby. She reportedly has two Terrence Malick films in production – ‘Lawless’ and ‘Knight of Cups’ – and is expected to appear in ‘Thor 2’ alongside Chris Hemsworth.
