Tragedy struck the world last week when a passenger train derailed in Spain killing 79 people and injuring many more. Is it possible the tragic event was caused by a phone call?

Reports say that the train was traveling at 119 mph just before the train derailed around a turn near Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. The speed limit on this section of track was a mere 50 mph. The driver attempted to activated the brakes moments before the train derailed.

AP news reports:

The driver received a call on his work phone in the cabin, not his personal cellphone, to tell him what approach to take toward his final destination.”

The driver, Francisco Jose Garzon Amo, is being investigated and is charged with 79 counts of negligent homicide.
