The adventure is officially over. Yes, Cartoon Network’s most beloved cult hit has officially named a time to bring the long-running Adventure Time to an official close, albeit one we have a few years to build up to. Find out what creators have to say about the end, as well as the future!

Never fear, Finn and Jake fans, for even as Cartoon Network confirms Adventure Time will come to an end, the series is guaranteed to air through 2018. That includes ”142 half-hours of content” for the post-apocalyptic coming-of-age saga, between new episodes, miniseries, specials and more.

Says creator Pendleton Ward:

Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.

The series began in 2010, and has since become a cult phenomenon for its trippy off-beat take on a post-apocalyptic world, as well a favorite of cosplayers and convention-goers. There’s Time yet to enjoy the Adventure, but will Finn and Jake have a happy ending in 2018? What answers to dense mythology might emerge?
