The 90's were a prosperous time.  The average income people were earning doubled in the decade.  But for some reason this lead to more and more people using credit cards.  As you may know from personal experience, credit cards have the ability to get you things that you can't afford right now, but also the ability to let you accumulate a ton of debt that you will eventually have to pay back.  And those payments suck.  But the 90's started teaching us how awesome it is to have a credit card early with the advent of the Mall Madness board game.  Kids can learn how to spend and spend and not actually have to pay anything back.  Corporate America had to be the brains behind this one.
